Equipment Guide

Texas Stream Team is a federally recognized statewide water quality monitoring program with an approved Quality Assurance Project Plan. Therefore, all monitoring must be conducted with the supplies listed unless otherwise stated.

General Supply Information

Whether you’re an equipment coordinator for a Texas Stream Team partner or you are a new community scientist looking to get started with monitoring, the Equipment Directory page is an essential resource for determining equipment purchases, needs, and maintenance. Please use the list below to locate the needed information:

Vendor Information: What vendors are used by Texas Stream Team? How do I contact them or place an order?

Funding Information: How much does monitoring cost? How do I get the necessary funds?

Equipment Needed: What type of equipment do I need for each type of training? Are there items that need to be purchased on a recurring basis?

Maintenance and Care: How do I manage and care for all this equipment?

  • To order supplies, simply visit the vendor’s website or call them directly. If you are unable to order through a vendor, you may submit a supply request form and Texas Stream Team may be able to assist with acquiring supplies. Please note however that per university policy, orders placed through Texas State University may incur additional fees.

  • The overall cost to monitor with Texas Steam Team is dependent on a multitude of factors, including the number of sites, site conditions, etc. Please use the Texas Stream Team Budgeting sheet (insert link) to assist with determining the expected cost associated with beginning and continuing to monitor. The costs provided are meant to be used as an estimate and do not take shipping and other extra fees into account.

Texas Stream Team is entirely grant funded and is limited financially in our ability to help our growing statewide community scientists. We highly encourage our partners to seek alternate funding sources by using the Funding Sources Document. If you are a new community scientist or partner group and need help getting started, please contact TXStreamTeam@txstate.edu or 512-245-1346.

  • To ensure longevity and cost efficiency for Texas Stream Team monitoring equipment, the Equipment Coordinator Packet (insert link) was developed. The packet provides information on safety guidelines, vendor information, budgeting, sharing, maintenance, and disposal. Although the packet was created for Equipment Coordinators, any monitors who use Texas Stream team equipment may benefit from the information.
